
What does the dbs represent?
The "Deutscher Bundesverband der akademischen
Sprachtherapeuten" (German Association of Academic Speech-Language
Therapists) represents all academically qualified speech/language therapists in
Germany who are active in
speech treatment rather than in school teaching.
The four to five year university curriculum leading to the
title "Sprachheilpädagoge" is the only German qualification program
which corresponds to European standards for speech therapy professionals.
Professional activities of dbs members
The professional activities of dbs members include all
fields of speech treatment as well as supervision, management and instruction
- in private practices
- in clinics (acute care, rehabilitation, geriatric care)
- in Public Health institutions, and for non-profit
organisations (e.g. in family treatment clinics or in Early Childhood Care
clinics)
- in special needs kindergartens and day care centres
- in communal and regional speech clinics
- with communal health insurance
- with Ear, Nose and Throat specialists, with specialists
for voice and child audiology, and with neurologists and pediatricians
Professional activities include prevention, counseling,
diagnosis, therapy and follow-up of children, young people and adults who are
affected or threatened by:
- speech and language development problems
- neurophysiologically caused voice, speech, language or
swallowing problems
- organic peripheral speech disorders e.g. cleft palate,
laryngectomy
- fluency disorders
- functional voice disorders
- all other communication disorders
