What does the dbs represent?

The "Deutscher Bundesverband der akademischen Sprachtherapeuten"  (German Association of Academic Speech-Language Therapists) represents all academically qualified speech/language therapists in Germany who are active in speech treatment rather than in school teaching. 

The four to five year university curriculum leading to the title "Sprachheilpädagoge" is the only German qualification program  which corresponds to European standards for speech therapy professionals.

  • continuing education in the field of speech and language in regional and national conventions and seminars
advises
  • on opening a practice/applying for a licence
  • on beginning professional life
informs
  • about current topics with a newsletter for members which is published 2-3 times yearly
  • with regional and national members' meetings
  • with legal advice for members on a telephone hotline
  • with information about the profession of speech therapy for the general public, students, patients and  families, politicians and health insurance companies
encourages &

  • contact with colleagues
  • contact with other professional groups
  • cooperation with universities
  • science and research in the field of speech and language
is involved in
  • the representation of the political interests of the profession and its members in negotiations with health insurance companies, government ministries and other bodies
  • expanding and promoting the image of the profession

  • establishing appropriate remuneration of members
